Synopsis:

“Messy” is a short film about high-functioning depression. The film follows Kara through her day as she hangs out with her friends and studies. Kara takes pride in her appearance and hides behind her mask of popularity and her persona of perfection. Throughout her day, her mask slips and cracks until a private breakdown sends her over the edge.

Characters:

Kara (early 20s)

On the outside, she is your typical popular girl. She's funny and gets along with everyone. She is the shoulder her friends cry on, the one who always gives people advice instead of taking it herself. Behind all her put on perfection, Kara is hiding her festering depression, a feeling she can explain and can’t understand. She is the friend that is hurting the most but smiles the brightest. 

Allie (early 20s)

Kara's best friend of three years. She has a lot of family issues and she always tells Kara about her drama. Kara has helped her out of many challenging situations in her life. 

Sarah (early 20s)

Sarah has known Kara and her friends for a very long time, everyone knows never to take what she says to heart. She has very dry humour and her every word is laced with sarcasm. Which makes her the comic relief of the group.

Hannah (early 20s) 

Hannah is a very clueless person; she is sweet and always has others' best interests at heart. She fits into the group well and is often reflective of the people around her. 

Audition info:

We will have in-person auditions on the 11th but will also be accepting self-tapes till the 12th. In-person auditions will be at ECU Mount Lawley (Room tbd) from 11am on the 11th. If you are going to an audition, please email our producer (TomD@blackholeProduction.com) and he will send you the script and find you a timeslot (if auditioning in person). If you would like to audition for Kara and Allie as a pair we are happy to facilitate this in the audition.

Dates:

Filming dates are still to be determined, but we will be shooting sometime between the 22nd of April and the 2nd of May (possibly on the 22nd and 1st, but that may change).

Extra Info:

The film is unpaid (as it’s a student film) but food will be provided on set, and the footage will also be provided.
